Services Using LDAP
Services Using LDAP
On a Unix system, various types of system information (such as users, groups and hostnames) can be looked up from different sources. In the simplest case these are all taken from local files in the /etc
directory, such as /etc/passwd
for users, /etc/group
for groups and /etc/hosts
for hostnames.
However, it is possible to select additional sources for this data. If your system is an LDAP client, you will need to use this page to enable the querying of the configured LDAP server for user and group information.
You should be careful to not turn off the Files data source for users or groups, as this would hide important system users such as root
. Instead, all you should need to do is select LDAP as the second source.
