Configuring Ports and Security Groups for Lift and Shift
In addition to the standard ports required for a basic SoftNAS® configuration (namely SSH and HTTPS which can be seen here. Lift and Shift™ requires the following ports to be configured:
8081 and 9443 must be configured on both target and source node.
For AWS instances and Azure virtual machines in particular, it is recommended that your SoftNAS® instances be configured with static IP addresses. If not, each time the nodes are stopped and restarted, there is a strong chance that the IP address will change, which will cause your Lift and Shift configuration to fail. On-premise (VMware) instances are less likely to lose assigned IP addresses, even if dynamically assigned, but it is still a risk.
Port | Traffic Type |
---|---|
8081 | Data transfer port for Fuusion™ and Lift and Shift™. The target node requires an 8081 port configured with a source node IP address configured with 32 ports (For example: 54.214.15.155/32). |
9443 | Web UI port for viewing Lift and Shift™ on older versions, and for Fuusion. This port requires a 9443 port to be configured with a source node IP address of the instance running the browser used to view StorageCenter™, also configured with 32 ports. (For example: 54.214.15.125/32) |
