Symptoms

Creating an AMI based on your SoftNAS current root volume could be a fast for recovery or having a DR site with the same configurations.

Purpose

This article allows you to create an AMI of your root volume and how to launch it 

Resolution

Please follow the step by step guide below to create an AMI of the root volume


  1. SSH to your machine and by using the root privileges remove the /etc/udev/rules.d/70-persistent-net.rules file as below


  2. Log in to the AWS console and navigate to the "Instances" tab on your left
  3. Right-click on the instance you wish to create an AMI based on it and choose "Images" then "Create Image"



  4. Give your new AMI a name and a description and remove any other EBS volume form the menuw then hit "Create"



  5. Your AMI is being created, you can check that in "AMI" 




To launch a new instance based on this AMI, you have two methods:

  1. From AMI section, write click on your AMI and click "Lanch"



  2. Or, From Instances section, click on "Launch instance", then you will find it under "My AMIs" in the launching wizard
