Does SoftNAS support VMware vMotion?

Yes, vMotion is a proactive tool for scheduled maintenance, enabling customers to migrate VMs, however it may take extended time to complete.  The amount of time depends size of the virtual machine (VM) being moved.

VMware HA (high availability) or FT (fault tolerance) should be used for protection against hardware or infrastructure failure. When VMware HA is configured and an HA event occurs, a VM is restarted on another ESX host. Whn VMware FT is used a mirror VM is created on another host in another ESX, where memory and state is copied to. During a single host failure, this solution provides you with a zero downtime, however it's supported for VMs with a certain number of vCPUs.

For FT, VMware version 5.x supports VMs wit only 1 vCPU. In version 6, in Standard version it supports up to 2 vCPUs and in the Enterprise Plus it supports up to 4 vCPUs.
