[SoftNAS KB]: Create a local Samba User Account to access CIFS Shares when not joined to Active Directory
[SoftNAS KB]: Create a local Samba User Account to access CIFS Shares when not joined to Active Directory
Symptoms
Users are experiencing issues accessing CIFS shares being presented from a SoftNAS deployment due to access denial. One of the common issues causing this is the incorrect assignment of encryption keys. The signing & encryption key is unique for a user and is generated when the user authenticates itself for each connection.
Purpose
If a SoftNAS administrator sets SMB encryption to required OR desired, they will have to create Samba User Accounts in order to access their CIFS shares.
Resolution
The signing & encryption key is unique for a user and is generated when the user authenticates itself for each connection. If an administrator wishes to use guest accounts, SMB encryption will need to be set to Off.
