Status Checking

In order to know that an instance is successfully launched, check its status.

  •  Click Instances in the left panel.
    All the instances related to the specific region will be displayed.
  •  When SoftNAS® is fully booted and is ready for initial configuration and use, the Status Checks column will show a green checkmark with the message that 2/2 checks passed: 

At this point, SoftNAS® instance is operational.

Status Check Monitoring

Set CloudWatch alarms in order to be notified automatically whenever the metric data reaches a pre-defined level.

  •  On the EC2 Dashboard, click the Instances option in the left panel.

  •  Select the instance in which you wish to add a CloudWatch alarm.
  •  Navigate to the Status Checks tab.

Status Check Alarm

  •  From the Actions drop-down, select Create status check alarm.  This will present you with the Manage CloudWatch alarms page.

  1. Select Create an alarm to create a new alarm.
  2. (OPTIONAL) - You can configure the alarm to send an email by sending a message to a specific Amazon SNS topic when the alarm is triggered.  Pricing for this service is dependent on factors such as endpoint type and region.

  3. (OPTIONAL) - Specify which action to take when the alarm is triggered.  The available options for this are Recover, Reboot, Stop, and Terminate.
  4. Specify the metric thresholds for the alarm.  Configure the requirements based on your companies needs.
  5. You can change the Alarm name here if preferred.
  6. Shows sample data for the selected metric using the selected data aggregation method.  If you wish, you can change the time range for which to view data.
  7. Once configuration is complete, click Create to finish the creation of your alarm.
